Club Sports are student ran organizations. Therefore all operational components will be handled through the student club officers/participants. Club Sports teams are competitive and are primarily self-funded by club fundraisers and membership dues. Clubs compete against other university club teams throughout the academic year. Varsity athletic sports are housed in the Athletic Department and compete in NCAA competition while receiving state funds.
Yes. There is a Campus Recreation registration fee. Competitive Fee is $40 and Recreational Fee is $20. Please review with your club sport officers which registration fee is applicable to you.
Being that these clubs are student ran organizations, individual clubs may decide to incorporate player fees or dues to account for yearly expenses. These fees may be used to pay for travel, uniforms, equipment, facilities, or possible referee fees.
Club sport teams participate by competing against other schools in regional leagues or national conferences, and play full seasons with National Championship Opportunities. Practice times vary by club. Most practices are 2-3 times a week for about two hours per practice. Clubs determine the number of practices a member must attend.
UCI students and UCI Faculty/Staff that are Anteater Recreation Center members are eligible to participant on Club Sport teams. Clubs may have try outs to determine the playing roster for competitions. Be sure to connect with the team or attend a practice session before completing your registration. Every participant must complete Do Sports Easy Registration and pay the Club Sports Registration Fee.
You do not need to know how to play the sport of the team you wish to join- "No Experience Necessary!" However, depending on the sport, if you wish to compete on the traveling/competitive/’A' team, experience is most likely necessary. For example, if you wish to play a highly popular sport like club soccer, you will need previous experience with the sport in order to make the traveling team. Other teams, like archery or fencing require little to no experience at all.
All regularly enrolled UCI students with current student identification are eligible for Club Sport membership. All current University employees with Anteater Recreation Center membership are eligible for limited Club Sport membership. The following persons are ineligible from joining Club Sport teams: non-University affiliated members, Alumni, Extension students and ESL students.
Club Sports provide students excellent leadership development opportunities. Most clubs have a full slate of officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer). Some clubs also have additional officers depending on the needs of their organization.
