The Campus Recreation staff is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for all participants. Participants are expected to follow basic guidelines that have been established to promote this goal. Patrons are expected to accept responsibility for their actions and should respond to all requests to adjust behaviors that do not meet guidelines. Campus Recreation staff has complete authority to implement stated as well as implied policies.
  1. Exhibit courtesy and good sportsmanship at all times.
  2. Show respect for the privacy and property of others.
  3. No violent or aggressive behavior will be tolerated. Foul and/or offensive language has no place in the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC)
  4. Proper attire and shoes are required at all times.
  5. No grasping or hanging on basketball rim or net in the ARC.
  6. Hours, policies and availability of the ARC are subject to change.
  7. Participants are expected to exhibit proper conduct and respect for the rights of others. Individuals who engage in unacceptable or disruptive behavior may have their access to the facilities revoked, modified and/or subjected to further university disciplinary action.
Violations of any University of California, Irvine or Campus Recreation policy, rule, regulation and code of conduct will be investigated by the staff. Sanctions such as revocation of membership or referral of incidents to the Judicial Affairs officer in the Office of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct and/or the UCI Police Department may be imposed.

  1. Dogs are not permitted on campus, except for Service Animals, provided they are trained to perform taksks for a person with a disability.
  2. Individual's bringing in a service animal must promptly remove and properly dispose of any droppings left by such animal.
  3. An individual bringing comfort/emotional support animals must contact UCI Disability Services Center for accommodation and approval.

Campus Recreation is responsible for maintaining its facilities and therefore sets standards for the posting of department, university and non-university materials.
  1. The Facility Coordinator must approve all non-Student Recreation Center posting material prior to posting. Unapproved material will be removed.
  2. All publicity materials must include the name of the UCI sponsoring club/organization. ONLY UCI related material may be posted.
  3. Flyers, printed posters, announcements may be posted on designated bulletin boards only.
  4. Posting materials are not permitted on trash cans, benches, trees, shrubbery, landscaping fixed poles, traffic directional signs, wood, glass, painted or finished surfaces.
  5. The use of glue, push pins and/or tape is prohibited.
  6. No posting on the exterior of the Anteater Recreation Center is permitted.
  7. Removal date: Flyers promoting specific events should include a removal date. All materials should be removed within 48 hours after the event.
  8. University Logo: Advertising materials should not use the University logo, mascot or seal without the University’s approval.
  9. All posting must adhere to University policies, including those regarding alcohol and the sale, service, and consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Bicycles, in-line skates, skateboards and E-Scooter can damage Campus Recreation facilities and are therefore limited to designated storage areas.
  1. Bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates and E-Scooter may not be used in any fashion inside the Anteater Recreation Center.
  2. Bicycle, skateboard, and E- scooter racks are located outside the facility for storing and locking.
  3. Bicycles & E-scooter should only be locked to designated racks. Bicycles or E-scooter locked to other objects, blocking disabled access, stairwells or handrails will have the lock removed.

In addition to the general ARC and Campus Recreation policies, the following specific policies shall be in effect for all Family / Youth / Swim Programs:
  • Family/Youth programs are only offered to legal dependents of current UCI students or current ARC members unless otherwise specified. Youth are defined as dependents 17 years old and younger. Dependents 18 years and older are required to purchase a day use pass.
  • Parents/Legal Guardians must show a current UCI student ID or a valid ARC membership card when entering the ARC or signing up children for designated programs.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult member at all times.
  • Children are allowed to participate in drop-in activities in Basketball, Volleyball, Indoor Soccer, and Badminton during designated weekend times. Contact the ARC Front Desk for court availability.
  • Children 14 years and older may participate in adult group pick-up games. Children 10 years and older may participate in Racquetball games.
  • Children are not permitted in the Fitness Lab, Wellness Lab or on any cardio or weight equipment located throughout the facility, at any time.
  • Children may not be left unattended while adult members participate in drop-in or formal activities.
  • Use of the Locker Rooms is limited to adults and same sex children. Individual restrooms and outside showers are available for adults supervising young children of the opposite sex. Children must be accompanied by a parent any time they use a restroom or locker room.
  • Food and drink are not allowed outside of the lobby or patio area with the exception of water in a plastic, resealable container.
  • Skateboards, scooters including e-scooters, inline skates, and bicycles are not permitted inside the ARC. They must be locked and stored outside of the ARC bike corral.
Children's Swim Time
  • During Family Swim time, an adult member must accompany and supervise their children at all times.
  • Use of the Locker Rooms is limited to adults and same sex children. Individual restrooms and outside showers located adjacent to the pool are available for adults supervising young children of the opposite sex. Children must be accompanied by a parent any time they use a restroom or locker room.
  • Children entering the pool under 48” tall must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Children’s non-swimming play activities shall be restricted to the shallow lanes 1-3 and wading area
  • Children are allowed to swim laps in shallow lanes 1-3.
  • Children wearing diapers must also wear leak proof plastic/rubber shorts.
  • Please ensure that all children are healthy and use the restrooms prior to entering the pool. Accidents occurring in the water may result in the closure of the pool.
  • Toys and inflatable floatation devices are not permitted in the pool.
  • Properly fitted United States Coast Guard approved life jackets are permitted in the pool.
  • Approved kick boards are permitted in the pool.
Children's Climb Time
  • Children’s climb time is only offered for legal dependents of current UCI students or current ARC members. Faculty/staff that are not ARC members may purchase an ARC Day Pass and bring their children to the Rock Wall. Youth are defined as dependents 17 years old and younger. Dependents older are required to purchase a day use pass and must be sponsored by an adult member or student.
  • Children’s climb time is a supervised session. All safety supervision is provided by certified safety belay staff.
  • A parent who is safety-belay certified may belay their own child.
  • To become safety belay certified, ARC member parents may enroll in a Climb 1 class at the ARC.
  • All participants are required to wear a helmet while climbing (helmets are provided or participants may bring their skate/bicycle helmet to wear).
  • Parents/Legal Guardians must show a current UCI student digital ID, a valid digital ARC Pass or a California Driver's License (Only Faculty/Staff) when entering the ARC or signing up children.
  • Children must be accompanied and always be supervised by an adult member.
  • Children may not be left unattended while adult members participate in drop-in or formal activities.
  • Adult members are responsible for the behavior of children in their care while in the ARC. To ensure proper supervision, there is a maximum of two children per adult member. Written requests for exceptions to this policy must be approved by Program Directors in advance.
Please note: Special Events or safety concerns may result in the modification or cancellation of Family / Youth drop-in hours.
Summer Swim Policy
  • During Children’s swim time, an adult student or ARC member must accompany and actively supervise their dependent children.
  • A digital liability waiver must be filled out by an adult student or ARC member for every child brought into the ARC.
  • Each adult may supervise up to two dependent children. Exceptions must be approved by ARC staff.
  • All ARC general children’s policies are applicable to swimming time.
  • Use of the locker rooms is limited to adults and same sex children. Individual restrooms and outside showers located adjacent to the pool are available for adults supervising young children of the opposite sex.
  • Children must be accompanied by a parent any time they use a restroom or locker room.
  • An adult must always be in the pool with all non-swimmers. The adult must always remain one arm’s length distance from the child.
  • One adult must be in the water with every two non-swimmers.
  • If a child can pass a swim test (50 yards freestyle and treading water for one minute), the adult does not have to be in the water but must always remain on the pool deck.
  • Children’s non-swimming play activities shall be restricted to the shallow lanes 1-3 and wading area.
  • Children are allowed to swim laps in shallow lanes 1-3. Exceptions may only be made by the Operations Manager.
  • Children that are not potty trained must always wear a swim diaper while in the pool.
  • Children experiencing gastrointestinal illnesses may not use the pool at any time.
  • Toys and inflatable floatation devices are not permitted in the pool.
  • Properly fitted United States Coast Guard approved life jackets are permitted in the pool.
  • Approved kick boards are permitted in the pool.
  • Violation of children’s swim policies may result in loss of pool access, revocation of membership or additional sanctions.
  • The wading area is subject to availability. Campus Recreation activities take priority. Availability subject to change without notice.

    Saturday & Sunday: 8:30am - 7:30pm

Commercial use of university facilities is not permitted.
  1. The use of the ARC for commercial/non-university business is prohibited.
  2. UCI Requires a permit from Student Center and Event Services for all commercial filming and photography on campus property.
  3. Conducting or holding private classes or activities are prohibited.
  4. Soliciting individuals in Anteater Recreation facilities for personal services, businesses, or agencies are prohibited without prior approval from UCI Campus Recreation.

In order to protect the long-term well-being of all facilities, Campus Recreation has established guidelines for food and beverages. Tobacco use is prohibited in all UC Irvine facilities. The policy was implemented on January 1, 2014, as part of a system-wide initiative by the University of California. The policy aims to promote a healthy and safe environment for all members of the UCI community and visitors.
  1. Smoking and use of tobacco or tobacco products, E-Vapes and marijuana are prohibited in all Anteater Recreation Center areas.
  2. Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
  3. Gum and candy are prohibited.
  4. Food and beverage consumption is restricted to the first floor Lobby, and patio area. Water may be consumed in specified areas if it is contained in a spill-proof, unbreakable, re-sealable container.
  5. Litter should be properly disposed of in trash receptacles.
All Campus Recreation employees have enforcement authority for these policies.

Campus Recreation users are responsible for all personal belongings brought to any Campus Recreation facility. Campus Recreation will assist participants with lost items by maintaining a log of items turned in to Campus Recreation staff.
  1. Members are encouraged to store all personal belongings securely in lockers provided throughout the ARC.
  2. Staff members are not permitted to hold valuables or bags for members.
  3. Found items should be turned into the closest supervised area (Front Desk, Sales Desk, Gear Up, and Fitness/Wellness Lab).
  4. Equipment found at all Campus Recreation facilities will be sent to Gear Up at the ARC daily.
  5. Inquiries regarding items lost that day should be made at the specific location. On the following day inquiries should be made at Front Desk or Gear Up at the ARC.
  6. Lost valuables will be stored in a secure location and can be claimed at Front Desk or Gear Up on the day that they are lost.
  7. Keys, identification and valuables not claimed at Front Desk or Gear Up will be forwarded to the UC Irvine Police Department. Unclaimed personal belongings will be kept until the end of the current quarter and donated to charity.
  8. Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
All Campus Recreation employees have enforcement authority for these policies.

Appropriate gym attire must be worn when utilizing the Anteater Recreation Center area. Proper athletic shoes and clothing are required. When using fitness equipment, shirts or appropriate attire must be worn at all times. Shirts are required in the gymnasium and on the running track except during challenge court basketball games. T-shirts with wording or graphics that are offensive or discourteous to other members should not be worn in the Anteater Recreation Center. Appropriate footwear is required in both gymnasiums and all fitness rooms. Shoes that mark or damage any floor in the facilities will not be permitted.

All Campus Recreation staff have authority to enforce participant attire policies.

Campus Recreation strives to protect the privacy of all participants. Therefore, users will not be permitted to record the actions of any participants.
  1. Video and audio recording devices are prohibited in the Anteater Recreation Center.
  2. Commercial photography and filming on Campus are strictly prohibited unless a permit is first issued by the University.
  3. Intramural/Club Sport participants may take photos of themselves or have friends or relatives record Intramural/Club Sport events.
  4. While general use of cell phones for selfies and recordings is permitted, filming, taking photographs or recording in restrooms, locker rooms and other restricted areas are prohibited.
  5. California wiretapping laws: Recording confidential communication without the consent of all parties is illegal under California Penal Code Section 632.
  6. All audio, including music, must be confined to a personal listening device. Members using a personal listening device must use headphones or earbuds to avoid disturbing other patrons. Exceptions are made for approved club practices in a designated activity room.

ARC Visitor Policy
Campus Recreation strives to make the Anteater Recreation Center a visitor friendly facility by allowing visitors to view facilities or events.
  1. Individuals that wish to tour the ARC may obtain a visitor pass.
  2. A visitor pass is valid for half an hour.
  3. Visitor pass users must sign the visitor pass agreement and waiver.
  4. To qualify for a visitor pass an individual must be wearing “street clothes”.
  5. Users may not bring personal belongings with them into the ARC.
  6. Users may not participate in any activity while in the ARC.
  7. While in the facility, all visitor pass users must observe all Campus Recreation and ARC policies.
  8. Visitors must buy a day pass if they remain in the facility for more than 30 minutes or have clearly worked out.
  9. The visitor policy may be subject to temporary revision during special events.
  10. Visitors are not permitted to watch Intramural events. Exceptions must be approved by Campus Recreation Staff.
  11. Visitors that fail to observe Campus Recreation or ARC policies may have visitor pass privileges revoked.
Day Pass Policy
Campus Recreation will permit members to sponsor a guest for one-day use of Campus Recreation facilities.
  1. The guest must present a valid government issued picture identification to purchase a pass.
  2. Any ARC Member may sponsor guests at any time.
  3. The Guest must be at least 18 years of age.
  4. Day Pass passes are valid at the Anteater Recreation Center for the date of purchase only.
  5. Day pass users must sign the day pass agreement and waiver.
  6. ARC Members must accompany their guest at time-of-day pass purchase. Guests may not remain in the facility after their sponsor has left.
  7. The appropriate guest fee must be paid and guest must sign the day pass form.
  8. Sponsoring members assume responsibility for the actions of their guest.
  9. Campus Recreation reserves the right to refuse admittance or sale of passes, and to revoke day pass privileges when necessary.
  10. Exceptions to normal guest access:
    Faculty and staff who are not ARC members will be eligible to access facilities upon presenting a valid UCI staff digital ID and self-sponsor by paying the daily guest fee. Non-members will also be eligible to register and participate in selected programs at the non-member fee.
